Belgian Police Shut Down National Conference, Demanding Peace
Belgian police have disrupted the annual National Conference currently taking place in a conference hall. Officers entered the venue and served a notice demanding that organizers shut down the event for disturbing the peace.
The incident occurred just after British politician Nigel Farage finished his speech and former British Home Secretary Suella Braverman took the stage. Three officers entered the premises, causing a stir among attendees.
The conference had already changed venues twice due to threats from anarchist groups and the mayor of Brussels. However, a source from the organizing team revealed that the pressure to shut down the event comes from higher authorities.
MEP Kinga Gál of Fidesz compared the police intervention to tactics employed by the communist regime in the 80s, highlighting the desperation of the left to silence their opponents. Uncertainties loom over the scheduled appearance of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán at the conference tomorrow.
