“Politics and TAF Should Not Mix: Disrespectful to Try”

Turkish Ministry of Defense Warns Against Politicizing the Military
The Turkish Ministry of National Defense has released a statement condemning the manipulation of news and misinformation designed to make use of the military and its command level for political purposes. The release emphasized that political debates and elections should not be used to associate the Turkish Armed Forces or its commanders with any particular political agenda.
The ministry further stated that such activities are disrespectful to the unity, integrity, and security of Turkey. The release warned against discourse that is directed towards the military and its personnel, emphasizing that the soldiers are heroic and self-sacrificing and their daily work is critical to maintaining the safety and security of the nation. They urged the public to stay away from politics and to allow the military to stay clear of daily polemics.
The Turkish Armed Forces, according to the statement, continues to serve the nation with determination and commitment to protect the rights and interests of the country and its people. The ministry added that the military remains active on land, sea, and air, in all kinds of terrain and climate conditions both at home and abroad.
This statement comes amid concerns about attempts to politicize the military in the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections in 2023. The military has traditionally tried to remain neutral in politics, however, in recent times there have been suggestions of a politicization of the military. The statement from the Ministry of Defense appears to be a reminder to all to respect the neutrality of the military and its command level.
