President Mirziyoyev Hosts Director General of ICESCO
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev welcomed the Director General of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), Salim al-Malik, who visited Uzbekistan to attend the meeting of tourism ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in Khiva.
During the meeting, the President and the Director General discussed the development of a constructive dialogue and fruitful interaction with ICESCO in the fields of science, culture, education, and tourism. The Director General expressed gratitude for the warm welcome and praised Uzbekistan’s efforts in studying, preserving, and promoting its rich scientific and cultural heritage.
Uzbekistan has been actively cooperating with ICESCO, including declaring Tashkent, Bukhara, and Samarkand as the capitals of Islamic culture in different years. This year, Khiva holds the title of the tourist capital of the Islamic world.
The two parties also discussed new areas of cooperation, such as the preservation and restoration of manuscripts and historical monuments, training Arabic language teachers, and organizing international scientific and cultural events. There are plans to open a regional representative office of ICESCO in Uzbekistan to further enhance practical interaction and promote joint projects.
Overall, the meeting between President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and the Director General of ICESCO highlighted the strong partnership between Uzbekistan and the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization in promoting and preserving Islamic heritage and fostering mutual understanding and cooperation in various fields.
