President Novák Welcomes President Erdogan with Military Salute at Heroes’ Square
President Katalin Novák welcomed her Turkish counterpart, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, with military honours at Heroes’ Square in Budapest on Monday morning. The two leaders held a private meeting at Sándor Palace, where they discussed various important matters.
Novák emphasized the significance of Turkey in Hungary’s efforts to prevent illegal migration, ensure energy security, and its involvement in conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East. The leaders also addressed the challenges faced by NATO’s eastern flank and difficulties related to its expansion.
The meeting marked the centenary of diplomatic relations between Hungary and Turkey, highlighting the strengthening bilateral ties and the signing of 17 agreements during Erdogan’s visit, including a strategic partnership agreement.
Furthermore, Novák praised the collaboration in family affairs and the joint cultural season aimed at showcasing the cultural richness and commonalities between the two countries. Both presidents are set to attend the opening concert of the joint Hungarian-Turkish cultural season in the Mupa.
This visit marks Erdogan’s second time in Hungary, and the third meeting between the two presidents, underscoring the strategic importance of their friendly relations. Novák previously met Erdogan during her official visit to Turkey in March, and the two leaders held talks during Erdogan’s visit to Budapest in August.
The strong cooperation and frequent high-level meetings reflect the commitment of both countries to further strengthen their ties and address important international issues.
