Turkmenistan and Saudi Arabia Strengthen Bilateral Relations
President Serdar Berdimuhamedov of Turkmenistan recently received the new Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Amer bin Ali Al-Shehri, who presented his credentials during a meeting on April 17. The Ambassador conveyed warm greetings from King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud to the President and the head of the Khalk Maslakhaty, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.
During their meeting, President Berdimuhamedov congratulated the Ambassador on his appointment and expressed his wishes for success in strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries. Turkmenistan and Saudi Arabia have a long history of friendship, brotherhood, and partnership, and the Turkmen-Saudi dialogue exemplifies cooperation based on trust, mutual respect, and equality.
Both countries actively collaborate in various international structures, such as the United Nations and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, where Saudi Arabia has supported Turkmenistan’s initiatives. The two nations also discussed increasing trade turnover and opportunities for further cooperation in sectors like fuel and energy, trade, investment, transport, and agriculture.
President Berdimuhamedov highlighted the importance of exploring the historical and cultural ties between the two nations through partnerships in science, culture, and art. The commitment to maintaining friendly relations was emphasized, with both parties affirming their dedication to strengthening interstate cooperation.
Following his meeting with President Berdimuhamedov, Ambassador Al-Shehri also met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, Rashid Meredov. The discussions between the two countries indicate a mutual desire to enhance cooperation across various sectors and foster closer ties for the benefit of both nations.
