President Tatar Welcomes AFAD Earthquake Risk Reduction Manager Dr. Orhan Tatar
President Ersin Tatar of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus recently met with the General Director of Earthquake and Risk Reduction at the Turkish Ministry of Interior Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD), Prof. Dr. Orhan Tatar. During the meeting, President Tatar emphasized the importance of earthquake preparedness and risk reduction in the aftermath of recent earthquakes in Turkey.
President Tatar highlighted the ongoing efforts to inspect public buildings and ensure they are earthquake-resistant. He also stressed the significance of proper ground surveys and construction materials in building resilient structures. Tatar mentioned the need for all buildings to be able to withstand earthquakes and highlighted the importance of collaboration with Southern Cyprus to enhance earthquake preparedness.
Acknowledging the expertise of the Republic of Turkey in handling earthquakes, President Tatar expressed gratitude for the support and shared knowledge between the two regions. The meeting also discussed the establishment of an earthquake monitoring and evaluation center in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
Dr. Orhan Tatar from AFAD thanked President Tatar for the opportunity to collaborate and emphasized the importance of continuous monitoring and sharing information about earthquakes. The meeting concluded with the exchange of gifts and a commitment to work together towards enhancing earthquake preparedness in the region.
