“Presidential Candidates’ Hometown Votes Examined”
The hometowns of Turkey’s presidential candidates had different choices in the latest election. In Rize, the hometown of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, he received 72 percent of the votes while the Presidential Candidate of the Nation Alliance, Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, received 22 percent. The People’s Alliance received the majority of votes with 73 percent and the Nation Alliance received 21 percent.
On the other hand, in Tunceli, Kılıçdaroğlu’s hometown, Kılıçdaroğlu won 80 percent of the vote and Erdoğan only got 16 percent. The Green Left Party received the most votes at 43 percent for deputies, followed by the Nation Alliance with 34 percent, and the People’s Alliance with 19 percent.
In Iğdır, the hometown of Ata Alliance Presidential Candidate Sinan Oğan, 62 percent of the votes were cast for Kılıçdaroğlu and 25 percent for Erdoğan in the presidential race. For parliamentary elections, the Green Left Party received 44 percent, the People’s Alliance 40 percent, and the Nation Alliance 12 percent.
Lastly, in Yalova, presidential candidate Muharrem İnce withdrew from his candidacy days before the elections. In the presidential race, Erdoğan received 47 percent and Kılıçdaroğlu 45 percent. The People’s Alliance received about 48 percent of the votes, while the Nation Alliance received 38 percent in the parliamentary elections.
It is interesting to note how different the political choices can be in different regions of Turkey. The results reflect the diversity and range of opinions within the country.
