President’s Press Service Publishes Latest Updates.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has stated that the US will continue to support peace treaty talks between Armenia and Azerbaijan. Blinken made this statement during a phone call with President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev on April 30. The Secretary of State also expressed his belief in the possibility of achieving peace and discussed the opening of the “Lachin” checkpoint on the Azerbaijan-Armenia border.

Aliyev noted Azerbaijan’s support for the peace agenda and highlighted that Azerbaijan had been the initiator of starting peace treaty talks and normalization of relations with Armenia. The Azerbaijani side has proposed five principles to Armenia in line with the norms and principles of international law.

Regarding the “Lachin” checkpoint, Aliyev explained that it had been set up in accordance with Azerbaijan’s sovereign rights and all international rules. The aim of the checkpoint is to ensure control and not restrict movement, as passage is already allowed.

Finally, Aliyev emphasized that the rights of the Armenian population living in the Karabakh region of Azerbaijan would be ensured in line with Azerbaijan’s constitution and international documents the country is a party to. The ongoing peace treaty talks between Armenia and Azerbaijan will continue to receive support from the US as they work towards achieving a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
