November 14, World Diabetes Day, is approaching, and in anticipation of this day, Denizli State Hospital Endocrinology Specialist Dr. İffet Dağdelen Duran has highlighted the growing number of diabetic patients and the need for awareness and prevention. According to Duran, it is predicted that there will be more than 700 million diabetic patients worldwide by 2045.
Dr. Duran emphasized the importance of World Diabetes Day in raising awareness of this disease which affects millions of people. The symbol associated with diabetes, a blue ring, is meant to symbolize the unity of all citizens under the sky, while also representing life and health. It is important to raise awareness and understanding of the impact of diabetes on the human body and the necessity of early diagnosis and follow-up.
Duran also discussed the prevalence of diabetes in Turkey, with approximately 8 million people diagnosed. However, it is estimated that there may be as many as 16 million diabetic patients considering those who have not yet been diagnosed. There are various types of diabetes, with type 2 being the most well-known and common. Dr. Duran emphasized the importance of compliance with diet and exercise for type 2 diabetic patients, and the essential nature of medication and, if necessary, insulin treatment.
Furthermore, Dr. Duran stressed the importance of regular testing for the diagnosis of diabetes, especially for individuals in high-risk groups. Regular physical exercise, a healthy diet, and routine medical check-ups were also recommended as preventive measures against diabetes.
In conclusion, Dr. Duran urged individuals to be proactive in understanding the risks and symptoms of diabetes, and to take necessary measures to prevent and manage the disease. Regular medical check-ups, a healthy lifestyle, and compliance with prescribed treatments were emphasized as key factors in maintaining good health and preventing the onset of diabetes.
