Public Health Unit of Veterinary Department Continues Inspections – BRTK

Veterinary Department Discovers Microbiological Growth and Yoghurt Quality Issues During Inspections

The Public Health Unit of the Veterinary Department recently conducted routine inspections at various food processing facilities, uncovering concerning issues related to yoghurt quality.

During the inspections carried out between June 26 and July 25, a total of 17 dairy plants, 23 butchers, 4 egg packaging plants, 2 chicken slaughterhouses, and 3 meat processing plants were inspected to ensure compliance with public health and food safety standards. Additionally, 152 physical import inspections were conducted during this period.

As part of these inspections, samples were collected and analyzed at the National Food Reference Laboratory. Of the 25 samples taken during import inspections, 22 underwent microbiological analysis and 3 underwent chemical analysis, with all results meeting the required standards.

However, issues were identified during domestic market inspections of yoghurt, halloumi, cheese, raw chicken, and hamburger products. Microbiological growth was detected in the yoghurt of one company, while another company’s yoghurt was found to have a dry matter content below the legal regulations. The Veterinary Department promptly took necessary measures to address these concerns.

Consumers are reminded to be vigilant about the quality of food products they purchase and consume, keeping in mind the importance of food safety and public health. Ongoing inspections and monitoring by regulatory authorities play a crucial role in safeguarding the quality of animal-origin foods available in the market.
