Rais of Tatarstan updated on ongoing projects in Eastern Zangezur economic region
Rustam Minnikhanov, the President of the Republic of Tatarstan in the Russian Federation, is currently visiting Azerbaijan. During his visit, he was provided with information about the ongoing developments in the districts of Jabrayil, Gubadli, and Zangilan, which are part of the Eastern Zangezur economic region.
Vahid Hajiyev, the Special Representative of the President of Azerbaijan in the Eastern Zangezur economic region, presented an overview of the ongoing projects in Jabrayil, Gubadli, and Zangilan to Minnikhanov.
The first topic discussed was the Zangilan international airport, which was inaugurated on October 20, 2022, in the presence of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The airport is capable of accommodating all types of aircraft and can handle up to 200 passengers per hour.
The combined area of Jabrayil, Gubadli, and Zangilan districts is 2580 square kilometers. The relocation process of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) has commenced as part of the Great Return state program. The number of IDPs from this region currently stands at 152,200.
Minnikhanov also received updates on the demining operations, road network, and electrical power infrastructure in the region. Furthermore, he learned about the Araz Valley Economic Zone industrial park, which has received an investment of 32.7 million manats for its various projects.
This visit highlights the ongoing efforts to develop and revitalize the Eastern Zangezur economic region, ultimately contributing to the overall progress and prosperity of Azerbaijan.
