Rebuilding Burana Tower: Preserving Turkic Culture and Heritage

Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation to Reconstruct Burana Tower in Kyrgyzstan

The Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation has announced plans to reconstruct Burana Tower in Kyrgyzstan. This decision was made following a meeting between the Minister of Culture, Information, Sports, and Youth Policy of Kyrgyzstan, Altynbek Maksutov, and the President of the Foundation, Aktoty Raimkulova, in Uzbekistan.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the reconstruction and museological work at the Alykul Osmonov House-Museum in Bishkek, as well as the plans to include the reconstruction of Burana Tower in the foundation’s work plan for 2025.

In addition to the reconstruction project, the meeting participants also discussed organizing an exhibition dedicated to the work of Mahmud Kashgari as part of the upcoming summit of the heads of countries of the Organization of Turkic States and the first international festival Ruh Sanat, scheduled for September 2024.

Burana Tower, also known as Buraninsky Minaret, is a significant cultural heritage site in Kyrgyzstan. Located among the ruins of an ancient settlement, the tower was constructed in the 10th-11th centuries. Despite being partially destroyed during an earthquake in the 15th century, the tower still stands at a height of 21 meters with a diameter of 9 meters. Visitors can climb the narrow spiral staircase inside the tower to reach the observation deck, offering panoramic views of the mountains and the ancient settlement.

The reconstruction of Burana Tower is expected to further enrich the cultural heritage of Kyrgyzstan and attract visitors from around the world to learn about the history and significance of this iconic landmark.
