Recruiters Detained in Kyrgyzstan for Enlisting Participants in Ukraine War
Kyrgyzstan Detains Suspect for Assisting Terrorist Activities
Bishkek – On January 11, 2025, the Service for Combating Extremism and Illegal Migration of the Main Department of Internal Affairs of Chui region in Kyrgyzstan announced the detention of a person suspected of assisting terrorist activities.
The investigation began after reports were received on December 12, 2024, about videos circulating on the Internet and social media encouraging citizens of Kyrgyzstan to participate in military conflicts in other countries. A criminal case was subsequently opened, leading to the discovery that the videos were posted on the YouTube channel “El Uksun” owned by a citizen named M.A., aged 39. Another individual, K.A., who was shown in the video, had participated in armed conflicts between Ukraine and Russia and was recruiting individuals for wars in other countries.
A forensic examination confirmed that the content of the videos contained calls for mercenary activities and recruitment of citizens to participate in military actions. Following the investigation, the suspect M.A. was located and detained by police officers, who placed him in a temporary detention facility.
The Department of Internal Affairs reminded the public that in Kyrgyzstan, it is prohibited to publish materials that promote war, violence, cruelty, and hatred towards other peoples and religious groups.
