Red Cross Expresses Concern Over Shooting of ICRC Humanitarian Aid Convoy in Gaza
The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) has expressed its concern over the attack on the International Committee of the Red Cross’s (ICRC) convoy in Gaza. The IFRC shared a post on social media, emphasizing the need to protect and respect humanitarian aid teams.
IFRC Secretary General Jagan Chapagain expressed deep concern after learning that the ICRC’s convoy came under fire while delivering life-saving aid to those in urgent need. Chapagain stressed the importance of protecting civilians, hospitals, ambulances, and humanitarian aid workers, and expressed solidarity with their colleagues at the ICRC.
The ICRC confirmed that fire was opened on convoys carrying humanitarian aid in the Gaza Strip. The attack highlights the ongoing risks faced by humanitarian organizations and the need for continued protection of aid workers in conflict zones.
