
Remembering Irsen – BRTK Tribute

Irsen Küçük, the founding councilor of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, former Prime Minister, and leader of the National Unity Party, was honored on the 6th anniversary of his passing at the Nicosia State Cemetery. The ceremony was attended by President Ersin Tatar, President of the Republican Assembly Ziya Öztürkler, Prime Minister Ünal Üsel, ministers, MPs, Küçük’s family, and supporters.
The event began with a moment of silence and the recitation of the National Anthem, followed by a poetry reading by Nilsu Aksu, an 8th-grade student from Irsen Küçük Secondary School. During the ceremony, Feridun Adahan spoke on behalf of the family, highlighting Küçük’s lasting contributions to the country through his dedication to serving the people and the nation.
Adahan praised Küçük’s unwavering commitment to public service, particularly in the field of agriculture, and emphasized the importance Küçük placed on merit and integrity throughout his political career. Prime Minister Ünal Üsel reflected on his personal connection with Küçük, describing him as a mentor in politics and acknowledging Küçük’s pivotal role in supporting the Turkish Cypriot community’s struggle for existence.
Üsel also mentioned Küçük’s efforts in promoting agricultural innovations during his tenure as Prime Minister and expressed the government’s commitment to completing unfinished projects initiated by Küçük. President Ersin Tatar lauded Küçük’s role in national liberation movements and highlighted his achievements in agriculture and infrastructure development.
The ceremony concluded with prayers and the laying of carnations on Küçük’s grave, symbolizing the enduring legacy of a man who dedicated his life to serving his country and its people.
