Remembering Teacher Martyr Aybüke: A Cultural Center in Her Hometown

The Legacy of a Martyr Teacher Lives On
In a recent statement, Ashgın emphasized that the martyr teacher Aybüke Yalçın is not only a source of pride for the city of Çorum, but for all of Turkey. “I became a teacher,” Ashgın quoted Yalçın, stating that her influence continues to guide the field of education even after her passing.
Yalçın, who tragically lost her life on the first day of her teaching career, left a lasting impact on her students and colleagues. “We may not hear her voice, but Aybüke said ‘I became a teacher’ for the second time through her martyrdom. Because teachers like Aybüke never truly die – neither do our martyrs. We keep their memories alive,” Ashgın remarked.
The legacy of Aybüke continues to inspire others to pursue a career in education. To honor her memory, an education center has been established in Gülabibey District, serving as a youth and women’s cultural center. “We are excited to nurture the next generation of Aybükes here,” Ashgın shared.
Not only does the center provide education and empowerment to young people, but it also aims to instill the values that Yalçın held dear. “We have already reached approximately 5,000 young people through our programs, and we are committed to carrying on the mission of our martyr teacher,” Ashgın concluded.
The impact of Aybüke Yalçın’s dedication to education and love for her country continues to be felt, as her legacy lives on through the educational initiatives and cultural center that bear her name.
