Renewable Energy Sources Leading the Way

The Impact of Renewable Energy on Turkey’s Electricity
The use of renewable energy sources in Turkey’s electricity sector has shown a significant increase, according to recent data. By the end of 2023, Turkey’s installed power in electricity had reached 106,668 megawatts, with almost all of this increase coming from renewable sources. Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Bayraktar, announced that 99.5 percent of the total installed capacity increase in 2023 was provided by renewable sources. He also revealed that an additional 2,845 megawatts of renewable installed power will be added in 2023.
Minister Bayraktar emphasized Turkey’s commitment to achieving carbon zero targets by 2053 and highlighted the vital role that renewable energy sources play in supporting this goal. “2023 has become the year of renewables. Thus, we increased our renewable energy installed power to 59,236 megawatts,” he stated.
In addition, it was announced that 326.3 terawatts of electricity will be produced in 2023, with renewable resources accounting for 42 percent of the total production. Minister Bayraktar also outlined the goal to increase the share of renewable energy in installed capacity to 65 percent and its share in production to 55 percent by 2035.
The significant increase in the use of renewable energy in Turkey’s electricity sector is a positive step towards achieving sustainability and reducing carbon emissions. As the country continues to prioritize renewable sources, it is expected that the positive impact on the environment and energy security will be further realized in the coming years.
