Repatriation of 483 Deceased Uzbek Citizens in 2024

In 2024, the Uzbek Migration Agency reported that the bodies of 483 Uzbek citizens were brought back to Uzbekistan from various countries. The majority of these repatriations, 474 in total, were from Russia, with the remaining bodies coming from Türkiye, South Korea, and Kazakhstan.
During a press conference on January 17, the agency stated that the costs of repatriation were covered by the Uzbek government. Nigora Isroilova, a department head at the Migration Agency, provided details on the process and associated expenses. She explained that the state fully covers the costs, which can vary depending on the country of origin. For example, repatriation from Russia can cost up to $1,000, from the United Kingdom $4,000–$5,000, and from countries like Japan or South Korea up to $9,000.
Isroilova emphasized that regardless of the channel through which the deceased traveled abroad, if they are an Uzbek citizen and a request is made, their body will be returned to Uzbekistan.
Last year, a total of 483 bodies were repatriated, with the majority coming from Russia. Specifically, 474 bodies were returned from Russia, while 5 came from Türkiye, and 4 each from South Korea and Kazakhstan.
The efforts of the Uzbek government and the Migration Agency to facilitate the return of deceased citizens to their homeland highlights their commitment to providing support and assistance to Uzbek families during difficult times.
