Rescue Efforts Hindered After Tunnel Collapse in India

A tunnel under construction in India collapsed during road work on November 12, trapping at least 40 workers in the rubble. The authorities detected that the drilling machine was damaged due to the cracking sound coming from inside the tunnel during the rescue work, causing them to stop the efforts.
Disaster management official Devendra Patwal stated that debris removal efforts have progressed 24 meters so far, and estimates that the workers were at a depth of about 60 meters. However, authorities are now waiting for new machines to arrive in the region so that the work can continue where it left off.
Oxygen and food have been supplied to the trapped workers through a pipe, but it was reported that some of them have developed health problems. The situation remains critical as the rescue efforts are temporarily halted with hopes of resuming once new machinery arrives.
