Responsibility for Palestinian Detainees in Gaza Falls on Israel, Says Prisoner Association
Kadura Faris, President of the Palestinian Prisoners Association, has spoken out about the treatment of Palestinians detained in Gaza. At a recent press conference in Ramallah, Faris expressed concern about the health and well-being of those held in detention.
“Occupiers are responsible for the fate of the Palestinians they have detained in Gaza and have refused to disclose their names, locations, and health conditions,” Faris stated.
He also brought attention to the fact that Israel has not been transparent about the number of Palestinians they detain or the conditions under which they are held. Faris emphasized that the Israeli government’s actions indicate a hidden situation regarding the detained Palestinians.
Faris called on the international community to apply pressure on Israel, urging them to act as a state rather than a gang. He also highlighted Israel’s failure to abide by a prisoner exchange agreement, stating that they did not comply with the agreed-upon criteria.
“It was agreed upon that seniority would be a criterion for the prisoner exchange, but this was not followed through,” Faris explained. He noted ongoing problems related to the seniority of the prisoners included in the agreement and emphasized that Israel did not act in accordance with the agreement. He added that efforts are underway to correct the situation.
The situation regarding the treatment of detained Palestinians is a cause for concern, and Faris’s statements serve as a call to action for both the international community and the Israeli government to address these issues.
