Restoration of Fetih Mosque in Manisa Unveiled After 710 Years

Manisa’s Fetih Mosque, also known as the Conquest Mosque or Kale Mosque, has been restored after 710 years. The mosque holds great historical significance as it is a symbol of the conquest of Manisa by Saruhan Bey in 1313.

Mayor Ömer Faruk Çelik and Deputy Mayor Bilal Demir recently inspected the restored mosque. Mayor Çelik highlighted the efforts made by Saruhan Bey in conquering Manisa, which was a Byzantine border city. On October 26, the night of Regaip Kandili, Saruhan Bey successfully conquered the city and built a mosque inside the castle. This mosque, known as the Conquest Mosque or Kale Mosque, became a symbol of the victory.

Over time, as the city shifted downwards, the mosque fell into disrepair and was almost forgotten. When Mayor Çelik and his team took office, they discovered the dilapidated state of the mosque. Initially believed to be a mausoleum, it was even tied with rags. However, after conducting extensive scientific studies, it was confirmed that it was the Fetih Mosque.

With the support of the Cultural Heritage Preservation Board, the municipality undertook the restoration work to bring the mosque back to its original glory. Mayor Çelik expressed his satisfaction in completing such a meaningful and important project for Manisa. He emphasized the importance of preserving the legacy of their ancestors and showcasing the strong Turkish and Islamic identity of the land.

To honor the 710th anniversary of the conquest of Manisa, the restored mosque will be opened to the public on October 26. This event signifies the celebration of the city’s history and the significance of the Fetih Mosque as a symbol of conquest. The restoration of this mosque is not only a restoration of a historical site but also a reminder of the rich heritage and cultural identity of Manisa.
