Retrial of Bungalow Case Announced – CNN Türk News

The Bungalow Disaster Case Will Be Seen Again

A tragic incident in İğneada, in the Demirköy district of Kırklareli, resulted in the loss of six lives due to flooding in 2023. The bungalow houses in the Sisli Valley were swept away by the floods, leading to a devastating outcome. Upon investigation, it was revealed that 18 of the bungalows were operating without proper licenses.

In response to this disaster, the owner of the business and three others were taken to court. The owner of the enterprise was initially sentenced to 11 years and 3 months, while two defendants received sentences of 7 years and 6 months each. However, the families of the victims appealed the decision, leading to a reversal by the Court of Appeal.

The Court of Appeal determined that the penalties should be harsher, and requested further investigation, including sending damaged hard disks to TÜBİTAK and listening to witnesses in detail. As a result, the case has been transferred to the Kırklareli 2nd High Criminal Court for a retrial.

The President of the Sapanca Villa and Bungalow Operators Association has spoken out, emphasizing that those responsible for such tragedies should face the most severe punishment possible. As the Bungalow Disaster Case is set to be revisited, the hopes for justice and accountability are high among the affected families and the public.
