On April 25, the Kyrgyz Ministry of Transport and Communications announced the launch of the reconstruction project for the Suusamyr-Talas-Taraz highway, marking a significant step in improving road safety and infrastructure in the region.
The event saw the participation of notable officials, including the Minister of Transport and Communications, Absattar Syrgabaev, and Ermat Zhumaev, the Plenipotentiary Representative of the President in the Talas region. Local authorities, including the Mayor of Talas and heads of district administrations, were also in attendance, demonstrating the project’s importance to the community.
Minister Syrgabaev outlined the necessity for this reconstruction, emphasizing that since Kyrgyzstan gained independence, only repair work has been conducted on the highway section from 104.6 to 197.6 kilometers. Increasing vehicle traffic and the deterioration of road conditions have led to unsafe driving situations, prompting the need for a comprehensive reconstruction plan long overdue.
The new project will adhere to technical category II standards, featuring a four-lane road in populated areas and a two-lane road in less populated regions. Enhancements to road safety will include the installation of lighting, sidewalks, and traffic signals in urban zones. The highway traverses several key districts within the Talas region, including Manas, Aitmatov, Bakai-Ata, and Talas.
In total, the segment earmarked for reconstruction stretches approximately 93 kilometers, promising improved connectivity and safety for all road users once completed.
This project symbolizes a commitment to infrastructure development in Kyrgyzstan, addressing both transportation needs and community safety in the years to come.
