Risk to Patients and Babies in Incubators at Nasser Hospital

The Ministry of Health in Gaza has issued a statement reporting a dire situation at Nasser Hospital, which was raided by the Israeli army and allegedly targeted to be turned into a military barracks.

According to the statement, the hospital’s generators are expected to stop within 24 hours due to fuel depletion, putting the lives of many patients at risk, including 3 babies in the incubator and 6 others connected to artificial respiration devices in the intensive care unit.

The Ministry of Health also reported that 95 medical personnel, 11 of their families, 191 patients, and 165 companions and displaced persons have been detained by the Israeli army in the hospital under poor conditions. The lack of food and water has left healthcare workers unable to provide necessary treatment services to the patients.

Furthermore, the statement described the Israeli army’s attempts to turn Nasser Hospital into a barracks, as well as targeting the ambulance center and displacing Palestinians from their tents. Additionally, the army reportedly used bulldozers to damage mass graves within the hospital campus.

Since January 22, the Israeli army has been carrying out intense attacks on the city of Khan Younis in the south of Gaza, including the hospitals in the area. This escalation comes after the area was previously declared a “safe zone” by the Israeli army.

The situation at Nasser Hospital highlights the urgent need for international attention and intervention to ensure the safety and well-being of the patients and medical staff.
