Palestinians and supporters commemorate children killed in Israeli attacks
Palestinians living in Italy, along with the support of non-governmental organizations and labor unions, organized an event in Rome’s Esquilino Square to honor the thousands of Palestinian children who lost their lives due to Israel’s attacks on the Gaza Strip.
During the event, a representative tombstone plaque was placed on the steps in front of the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, inscribed with the names of over 6,000 children who died in Gaza. A moment of silence was observed to remember the young victims.
Speakers at the event called for a permanent ceasefire and emphasized the need to boycott Israeli products. Maurizio Landini, the Secretary General of the General Labor Confederation of Italy (CGIL), stressed the importance of protecting civilian victims, especially children, without discrimination.
Palestine’s Ambassador to Rome, Abeer Odeh, stated firmly that Palestinians would not give up their lands and rights. She highlighted the alarming number of children killed in Gaza, comparing it to casualties in other conflict zones.
Attendees expressed their solidarity with the Palestinian children and called for an end to the violence. Antonella, an Italian participating in the event, condemned the attacks on Palestinian children and urged for a lasting ceasefire.
The situation in Israel and Gaza was discussed, including the casualties on both sides. Israel’s bombardment of Gaza and the resulting death toll, including children and women, was a matter of concern for the event attendees.
The event also shed light on a prisoner swap agreement between Hamas and Israel, which led to the release of Palestinian and Israeli prisoners.
The event in Rome served as a platform to draw attention to the plight of Palestinian children and the ongoing conflict in the region. It provided an opportunity for individuals to voice their support for peace and justice for the victims. The calls for a permanent ceasefire and the remembrance of the young lives lost in the conflict echoed the sentiments of many in Italy and around the world.
