Ruling Party Secures Majority in Bangladesh General Election

The Awami League Party emerged victorious in the recent elections in Bangladesh, with Supreme Electoral Council Chairman Kazi Habibul announcing that the party won 222 seats. Independent candidates also secured 62 seats, with other parties winning one seat each.
However, the elections in Naogaon-2 and Mymensingh-3 regions were postponed, with the latter set to be held again on January 13. Despite the postponements, Habibul stated that the elections overall went smoothly, with a participation rate of 41.8 percent.
Following the election, Obaidul Quader, General Secretary of the Awami League Party, noted the failure of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Party, who chose to boycott the election. Quader expressed that the BNP will have to wait for the next 5 years, as the Awami League Party takes power once again.
The 12th general election saw the participation of candidates from the Awami League Party, led by Prime Minister Wajid, while the main opposition BNP and the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Party decided to boycott the election.
