Russia Continues to Have Strong Military Support from Iran in the US
White House Coordinator on National Security Council Strategic Communications, John Kirby, has spoken out against Iran’s alleged support for Russia’s military activities. During an online press conference, Kirby said that Iran has provided more than 400 kamikaze drones to Russia since August 2021, most of which have been used to target Ukraine’s critical infrastructures. Iran’s deployment of advanced unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to Russia, claimed Kirby, is a danger to US personnel in the Middle East. Kirby further noted that Russia provides Iran with missiles, electronics and air defense support, while Tehran wants to obtain billions of dollars’ worth of military equipment from Russia. Kirby has called on governments and institutions to work together to understand the risks inherent in Iran’s UAV program. The White House Coordinator has also promised to take further action against the growing military trade between Russia and Iran. Kirby’s words highlight the increasing tension between Russia, Iran, and the United States, with the former two nations involved in multiple conflicts in the Middle East and elsewhere.
