Russian Railways Continues Discount on Fruit and Vegetable Transport from Uzbekistan until 2025

Russian Railways (RZD) has recently announced the extension of its discount on transporting fruit and vegetable products from Uzbekistan and Tajikistan through the year 2025. This decision reflects the company’s commitment to supporting the agricultural industry and facilitating trade between the two countries.

The 50% discount on refrigerated transport for fresh produce, which was initially implemented in January 2021, will now be prolonged for another year. Furthermore, RZD has also extended a 20.4% discount for the transportation of goods in refrigerated containers from the Selatino station in the Moscow region to Uzbekistan’s Sergeli and Jizzakh stations. These discounts aim to incentivize and boost the export of agricultural products from Uzbekistan to Russia.

Uzbekistan has seen significant growth in its exports of fruit and vegetable products, with a total of 1.35 million tons shipped from January to August 2024. This represents a 9% year-on-year increase and amounted to $922.8 million in revenue. Russia continues to be the largest market for Uzbekistan’s produce, accounting for 44% of total exports by value, followed by Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Afghanistan, and Kyrgyzstan.

By offering these discounts on transportation, RZD is not only facilitating trade between the two countries but also contributing to the growth of Uzbekistan’s agricultural sector. This initiative is expected to have a positive impact on both economies and strengthen the trade relations between Russia and Uzbekistan in the years to come.
