Sabancı Volunteers Celebrate Republic Day by Cleaning the Sea in Adana

On the occasion of the 100th Anniversary of the Republic, 300 Sabancı Volunteers gathered in Karataş, Adana to clean the sea, beach, and port. This event, organized as part of the Sabancı Republic Mobilization, aimed to raise awareness about marine pollution and preserve the unique marine biodiversity of Karataş.

One of the key initiatives announced during the event was the establishment of a plastic waste recycling center by Enerjisa Enerji. This center will enable fishermen in the region to collect marine waste and earn income from it. The Sabancı Republic Mobilization also plans to install a solar power plant on the roof of the ice production facility in Karataş Fisheries Cooperative. This plant will provide all of its energy from renewable sources, reducing costs and contributing to sustainable practices.

In addition, CarrefourSA organized training programs on sustainable fishing, ergonomics in fishing, and plastic waste management for the fishermen of Karataş Fisheries Cooperative. These trainings aim to increase the technical capacity of the cooperative and promote sustainable fishing practices.

The event received wide participation from local communities and representatives of Sabancı Holding, Enerjisa, CarrefourSA, and Enerjisa Üretim. Together, they worked diligently to collect waste and ghost nets from the sea, port, and Harbiş Beach. By the end of the day, a total of 878 kg of waste had been collected and delivered to the recycling center.

The Sabancı Republic Mobilization, Turkey’s most widely attended social responsibility movement, has been instrumental in promoting sustainable living and protecting the environment. The mobilization, now in its third year, has organized a total of 270 events in 48 cities, engaging over 22,000 Sabancı Volunteers. These events have focused on various areas, including combating climate change, promoting biodiversity, and empowering women in the workforce.

Sabancı Group, since its establishment, has always prioritized preserving the values of the Republic of Turkey. The Sabancı Republic Mobilization reflects this commitment by working towards a better future for future generations and protecting the legacy of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. Through initiatives like marine waste recycling and renewable energy, the mobilization aims to set an example for sustainable living and contribute to healing the wounds of environmental disasters.

As the Sabancı Volunteers celebrate Republic Day, their efforts in Karataş serve as a reminder of the importance of preserving our natural resources and working together for a more sustainable and prosperous future.
