SCO Launches Year of Ecology Initiative
Kazakhstan kicks off Year of Ecology in SCO
The Year of Ecology has kicked off as part of Kazakhstan’s chairmanship in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). The Xinhua news Agency reported that the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic, Aybek Smadiyarov, confirmed the beginning of the Year of Ecology.
The Year began with thematic events in educational institutions and actions conducted by the SCO Secretariat. Environmental organizations are planning to hold approximately 20 joint events within the framework of this project. These events will include dedicated days such as World Environment Day, World Water Day, International Day of Biological Diversity, and World Forest Protection Day.
Smadiyarov stated, “We consider the events initiated by the Kazakh presidency as a significant contribution of the Organization to achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals.” He also added that Kazakhstan will continue to promote the adoption of practical measures by the SCO to protect the environment.
The initiative to declare 2024 the Year of Ecology in the SCO was supported by member states in July of last year. This demonstrates a strong commitment to environmental protection and sustainability within the region.
As Kazakhstan takes the lead in promoting ecological awareness and action within the SCO, we can expect to see a year of meaningful initiatives and events aimed at addressing environmental challenges.
