Search and Rescue Underway After 4-Storey Building Collapse in Konya | Video News

A 4-storey building collapsed in Konya, Selçuklu district, on Beyşehir Street last night for reasons yet to be determined. The building, which housed workplaces on the ground floor, collapsed with a loud noise, prompting nearby residents to contact the 112 Emergency Call Center.

Rescue teams, including the fire brigade, AFAD, police, and medical teams, quickly responded to the scene. Two injured individuals were rescued from the rubble and received immediate medical attention before being transported to the hospital.

Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz and AK Party Deputy Chairman Mustafa Elitaş visited the scene and confirmed that there were 5 more individuals believed to be trapped under the collapsed building. Yılmaz mentioned that the building had 14 flats and 7 shops, and despite being in an urban transformation zone since 1994, the necessary renovations had not been carried out due to disagreements among the building owners.

Efforts to rescue the remaining individuals were ongoing, with fire teams from various cities joining the search and rescue operation. Governor İbrahim Akın stated that there was information suggesting that 5 people were still trapped inside the wreckage, emphasizing the importance of patience and careful coordination during the rescue operation.

Konya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Uğur İbrahim Altay urged the public to avoid contributing to traffic congestion on Beyşehir Street and assured that every effort was being made to ensure the safety of those trapped beneath the collapsed building. As investigations continue, it has been noted that 12 out of the 14 flats in the building were unoccupied, shedding light on the potential extent of the tragedy.
