Secretary Blinken Meets with Central Asian Foreign Ministers at UN General Assembly
In a meeting held during the 79th annual session of the UN General Assembly, Secretary of State Antony Blinken engaged with foreign ministers and representatives from the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Republic of Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and the Republic of Uzbekistan under the C5+1 platform. This platform aims to enhance cooperation between the United States and Central Asian countries.
Building upon commitments made during the inaugural C5+1 Presidential Summit in 2023, Secretary Blinken commended the progress achieved in advancing the goals outlined in the New York Declaration. Key achievements include the launch of the C5+1 Critical Minerals Dialogue, the B5+1 Forum to promote U.S.-Central Asian business partnerships, and the first C5+1 Special Session on Disability Rights held at the UN Conference of States Parties to the CRPD.
The participants deliberated on measures to strengthen regional security cooperation and promote peace in Central Asia. Secretary Blinken emphasized the importance of upholding the principles of the United Nations Charter, particularly in relation to human rights, and emphasized the need for a respectful partnership based on the independence and sovereignty of all states.
Looking ahead to 2025, Secretary Blinken highlighted the upcoming tenth anniversary of collaboration through the C5+1 platform. He reaffirmed the U.S. commitment to working with Central Asian nations to address global challenges collectively and seek regional solutions.
