Yesterday, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev took the time to familiarize himself with the latest projects in the railway sector in Uzbekistan, as reported by the press service of the head of state. The President’s interest in the railway industry highlights its importance in the country’s development.
The unique geographical location of Uzbekistan, combined with the rapid industrial growth, has significantly increased the significance of railway transport. Over the years, Uzbekistan has made great strides in the development of its railway infrastructure, creating a modern network that effectively serves the needs of the population and various economic sectors.
Since gaining independence, Uzbekistan has constructed over 2,400 kilometers of new railways and electrified more than 3,000 kilometers. The domestic railway industry has the capacity for heavy engineering and ferrous metallurgy, connecting all regions of the country efficiently and reliably.
Uzbekistan has emerged as a vital hub for international railways, connecting the East with the West and the South with the North. The country’s active investment policies and favorable business conditions have solidified its role as a crucial transport hub along various trade routes.
In light of this, ongoing efforts to expand and modernize the railway sector remain a top priority. The discussion of projects during the presentation underscored the importance of enhancing Uzbekistan’s transport and logistics potential and ensuring its effective utilization.
Special emphasis was placed on diversifying transport corridors to improve access for entrepreneurs to global markets and enhance export opportunities. Of note is the construction of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway, an integral part of the “One Belt, One Road” initiative, aimed at boosting regional ties and facilitating economic development.
Additionally, discussions highlighted the progress towards creating new transport corridors linking Central Asia with South Asia, with the potential to further enhance regional connectivity and economic cooperation.
In line with the President’s vision, instructions were given to focus on the development of aviation infrastructure, the transformation of airports into international transit hubs, and the construction and refurbishment of modern highways. These initiatives aim to strengthen Uzbekistan’s position as a key player in the regional and global transport network.
