Shavkat Mirziyoyev Visits Andijan to Inspect Upgraded Airport as Regional Development Accelerates

Uzbekistan President Inspects Andijan Airport Modernization Efforts

On April 15, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited the Andijan region to oversee the progress of regional development initiatives and assess the living conditions of the local population. One of the key highlights of his visit was the inspection of the ongoing modernization of Andijan International Airport.

According to the report by the presidential press service, the changes in the region are already visible starting from the airport. As part of Uzbekistan’s broader strategy to enhance its transportation infrastructure, the airport is undergoing a comprehensive modernization process.

Originally built in 1978, Andijan International Airport was in need of upgrades to meet modern aviation standards. The limited load-bearing capacity and lack of advanced lighting systems had restricted the types of flights it could accommodate. However, the first phase of reconstruction has now been completed, featuring a new runway, taxiway, aircraft parking stands, and upgraded drainage systems. The airport is also in the process of installing radar, meteorological, and lighting equipment that meets international standards.

These improvements will enable the airport to handle larger aircraft and increase the number of daily flights significantly. Furthermore, plans for the construction of a new passenger terminal are underway, which will boost the airport’s hourly passenger handling capacity and annual flight numbers.

Currently, flights on the Tashkent-Andijan route are being operated from the reopened airport. President Mirziyoyev emphasized the importance of effective airport management, cost reduction, and expanding domestic and international flight options.

The modernization of Andijan International Airport is part of Uzbekistan’s broader efforts to upgrade its airports across the country. In recent years, several airports in different regions have undergone similar modernization projects to improve connectivity and transportation facilities.

Overall, the transformation of Andijan International Airport is set to enhance air travel in the region and contribute to the economic development of Andijan and the Fergana Valley as a whole.
