Tragic End to the Search for Missing Man
The disappearance of Hakkı Gençoğlu, a resident of Acarlar District of Incirliova district, has come to a tragic end. Gençoğlu went missing on December 22, 2020, after going to collect olives with his nephew and his friend in the Alangüllü District. He had promised to return to check on the other side of the garden later in the evening, but he never showed up.
Extensive search efforts were carried out by his family, the gendarmerie, and AFAD teams, but no trace of Gençoğlu could be found. The suspects, Gençoğlu’s nephew and his friend, were detained by the gendarmerie but were later released after providing their statements.
The situation took a devastating turn last January 2 when human bones were found in a dump near the Alangüllü District. The bones were collected and sent for DNA testing, which ultimately revealed that they belonged to the missing Gençoğlu.
Today, the human bones were delivered to Gençoğlu’s relatives, and he was buried in a funeral ceremony held in Acarlar Neighborhood Cemetery. The gendarmerie has initiated an investigation into the death of Gençoğlu, who was previously reported missing.
