Six killed in New Zealand hostel fire
At Least Six Dead in New Zealand Hostel Fire
A tragic fire broke out in a building used as a hostel in New Zealand, leaving at least 6 people dead and many more trapped inside. Wellington District Fire and Emergency Officer Nick Pyatt reported that 52 people have been rescued from the building so far, but unfortunately, the death toll is expected to rise. Pyatt stated, “It is with regret that I can say that this is an event where many deaths will occur,” and added, “This is our worst nightmare. It can’t get any worse than this.”
Wellington Mayor Tory Whanau expressed his condolences to the families of those who lost their lives, saying, “I can say that many people lost their lives. However, studies are continuing to determine the exact number.” The cause of the fire is currently unknown, and the police investigation is ongoing.
This tragic incident serves as a reminder of the importance of fire safety measures, and we hope the authorities are able to determine the cause of the fire and prevent such incidents from happening in the future. Our thoughts are with the families and loved ones of those affected by this heartbreaking event.
