Snow-covered Seljuk Square Cemetery in Ahlat
The Seljuk Square Cemetery in Ahlat, Bitlis, has been transformed into a winter wonderland after a recent snowfall. The snow-covered cemetery, which is located on the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Temporary List, is home to monumental tombstones that have been beautifully integrated with the snow cover.
Spanning an area of 210 acres, the Seljuk Square Cemetery is recognized as the world’s largest Turkish-Islamic cemetery. Visitors from near and far have flocked to the district to witness the stunning transformation brought on by the snowfall.
One visitor, Adem Karakurt, expressed awe at the beautiful images created in the cemetery after the snowfall, stating, “We want everyone to see this place. It has a very beautiful view. We came to witness this beauty.”
