South Korea to Introduce New Visa for High-Tech Specialists
South Korea is set to launch a new "top tier visa" program aimed at attracting foreign specialists in high technology fields, as reported by The Korea Times newspaper. This initiative is a significant step towards bolstering key sectors of the economy by providing better conditions for foreign professionals working in areas such as semiconductors and electric vehicle batteries.
The program, scheduled to kick off this month, will offer an expedited visa process and stable residency for foreign workers and their families. Eligible specialists and their family members will be eligible to apply for an F-2 visa, allowing them to work in South Korea for three years with the possibility of obtaining permanent residency later on. To qualify, visa applicants must have at least eight years of work experience, including three years at one of the world’s 500 largest companies, as well as a degree from one of the world’s top 100 universities. They must also earn an annual salary of at least 140 million won (approximately US$96,000).
In addition to the "top tier visa," the South Korean government is also introducing a "youth dream visa" in the form of the D-10 visa. This visa will be available to graduates of leading university science programs, allowing them to freely seek employment opportunities in South Korea for two years.
This move by South Korea is expected to not only attract top talent to the country but also contribute to the growth and development of its high-tech industries.
