South Korean Scientists Join Excavations at Kültepe
Kayseri Metropolitan Municipality Welcomes South Korean Delegation for Archaeological Excavations
The Kayseri Metropolitan Municipality recently announced that Mayor Memduh Büyükkılıç met with a delegation from South Korea and Professor Dr. Fikri Kulakoğlu, the head of the Kültepe Kaniş-Karum Mound Excavations. The meeting highlighted the ongoing collaborations between Kayseri and South Korea in the field of archaeology.
Mayor Büyükkılıç mentioned the presence of Korean language departments at universities in Kayseri and the existing partnerships with Erciyes University in Seoul. This connection has laid the foundation for a fruitful relationship between the two regions.
Professor Dr. Fikri Kulakoğlu, head of the Kültepe Kaniş-Karum Mound Excavations, expressed his excitement about the collaboration with South Korea that has been ongoing since 2016. He emphasized the rich historical significance of Kayseri and the city’s potential as a hub of civilization waiting to be explored.
Looking ahead, Kulakoğlu revealed that a scientific committee from the National Cultural Heritage Research Institute of the Republic of Korea is expected to join the Kültepe excavations in 2024. Plans are underway to sign a protocol and solidify an agreement for the excavations, with full support for South Korean researchers in every aspect.
