During a recent session of the Spanish Parliament’s “questions to the government,” Spanish Foreign Minister Albares made a statement regarding the country’s stance on the ongoing conflicts in Gaza and Ukraine. In his speech, Albares stated, “Of course, there will be no Spanish soldiers in Ukraine. Because we want peace. The Spanish Government wants the same thing in Gaza and Ukraine. Peace and respect for international rights.” This declaration reaffirms Spain’s dedication to diplomatic solutions and peaceful resolutions to conflicts.
Additionally, Albares announced that Spain has not granted any new licenses for arms exports to Israel since October 7. This decision reflects the government’s commitment to ensuring that military equipment does not contribute to escalating tensions in the region. Despite accusations from opposition members, Albares maintained that there have been no recent arms sales to Israel and that such transactions will only resume once the cycle of violence in Gaza comes to an end.
Recognizing the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, Albares expressed solidarity with the Palestinian people and announced Spain’s continued support for UNRWA. Moreover, he pledged to increase financial aid and impose sanctions on Israeli settlers responsible for violence against Palestinians.
