Russian State Duma Delegation Holds Meeting in Bishkek
On October 19, 2024, a meeting took place in Bishkek between a delegation from the Russian State Duma, led by Vasily Piskarev, Chairman of the Committee on Security and Corruption Control, and Jamilya Isaeva, Vice Speaker of the Zhogorku Kenesh. The meeting aimed to discuss changes in Russia’s migration policy to combat illegal migration.
During the meeting, Vasily Piskarev highlighted the strategic partnership between Russia and Kyrgyzstan and proposed joint efforts to harmonize legislation in the areas of combating corruption and enhancing security. Jamilya Isaeva, on the other hand, praised the active political engagement between the two countries and stressed the importance of inter-parliamentary dialogue and cooperation within the Eurasian Economic Union. She also expressed interest in attracting investments and fostering trade and economic relations between Russia and Kyrgyzstan.
Recent developments in Russian migration laws were also touched upon during the meeting. The State Duma is currently reviewing five bills related to migration policy changes in Russia. This has raised concerns among migrants, with Kyrgyz Deputy Mederbek Aliyev reaching out to his Russian counterparts regarding the impact of these new laws on migrants from Russia.
The meeting between the Russian State Duma delegation and Zhogorku Kenesh officials signifies the ongoing efforts to strengthen bilateral relations and address important issues such as migration policy and economic cooperation between Russia and Kyrgyzstan.
