State Secretary claims Ilaria Salis is a Violent Extremist, Not a Hero
Two years ago, an appalling act of premeditated violence shook Hungary when Ilaria Salis and her Antifa associates launched coordinated, unprovoked assaults on innocent pedestrians in Budapest. Zoltán Kovács, the Secretary of State for International Communications and Relations of the Prime Minister’s Office, highlighted this incident in a social media post.
Kovács shared a video of the attacks and emphasized that the Hungarian authorities swiftly acted by arresting Salis and charging her with organized assault. However, instead of facing justice for her actions, Salis was shielded by the political elite in Brussels, hiding behind her immunity as a Member of the European Parliament (MEP).
Describing Salis as a violent extremist who used Hungary as a battleground for her ideology, Kovács expressed disappointment that she managed to escape trial through her election to the European Parliament. Hungarian prosecutors sought an 11-year sentence for her crimes, but foreign media and left-wing political circles have portrayed her as a martyr, evading accountability.
Kovács called out the double standards of Brussels, criticizing their interference in the case to protect an ideological ally while lecturing Hungary on democracy and the rule of law. He stressed that the real victims are the individuals who were violently attacked, as their suffering has been overlooked in favor of defending an Antifa militant.
Hungary continues to demand justice for the victims of the 2023 attacks, with Kovács reiterating the need for accountability and adherence to the rule of law. The focus should remain on the victims, not on shielding perpetrators from facing the consequences of their actions.
