
Stoltenberg supports Israel’s right to self-defense while stressing protection of civilians

NATO Secretary General and Jordan’s King Abdullah II Discuss Middle East Situation
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg recently held a meeting with King Abdullah II of Jordan at NATO headquarters. Following the closed-door meeting, NATO released a written statement detailing the key points discussed. The statement mentioned that King Abdullah also attended the North Atlantic Council meeting and made an address.
During the meeting, Stoltenberg expressed NATO’s deep concern regarding the situation in Gaza and its surroundings. He emphasized that while Israel has the right to defend itself, it is crucial to protect civilians. Stoltenberg welcomed efforts to ensure that humanitarian aid reaches Gaza, underlining the importance of safeguarding the well-being of the population.
Furthermore, the Secretary General stressed the need for Iran and Hezbollah not to exploit the situation. He urged all parties to exercise restraint and refrain from escalating tensions in the region.
In acknowledging Jordan’s significance as one of NATO’s closest partners in the area, Stoltenberg reiterated NATO’s full commitment to supporting their partners in the region and the Mediterranean Dialogue. This support aims to enhance stability and security in the Middle East and North Africa.
