
Strong 6.1 Magnitude Quake Hits Java Island, Indonesia

A 6.1 magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of East Java province in Indonesia, according to a statement from the Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG). The earthquake’s epicenter was located 132 kilometers north of the city of Tuban and occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers.
Despite the strong magnitude of the earthquake, no casualties or damage have been reported so far, as per the initial assessments. Additionally, no tsunami warning was issued following the earthquake.
Indonesia is no stranger to earthquakes, being located on the Pacific “Ring of Fire” where tectonic plates meet and seismic activity is common. The authorities will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as necessary to ensure the safety of local residents.
