Student Sentenced to 5 Years for Attempted Arson at Israeli Embassy
A 19-year-old student from Uzbekistan attempted to protest by trying to set fire to the Israeli embassy in Tashkent after watching a video of the armed conflict between Israel and the Palestinians.
The student, a second-year student at the Uzbekistan State World Languages University, was found guilty of terrorism according to the verdict of the Yakkasaray district court. The incident occurred on October 19, 2023, when the young man packed a sports bag with a bottle of kerosene, dumbbells, matches, and fabric, and rode his bicycle to the embassy.
Upon arriving at the embassy, his suspicious behavior caught the attention of the police, who intervened and stopped him before he could carry out his plan. The student tried to escape but was apprehended and taken into custody. Despite claiming that he only wanted to protest and did not intend to harm anyone or the embassy, he was sentenced to 5 years in a general regime colony.
The student admitted that his actions were fueled by hatred for Israel after watching videos of the conflict in Gaza and expressed remorse for his wrongdoing.
