Construction Worker Hospitalized After Being Covered in Wet Concrete
A construction worker in Turkey was hospitalized on Thursday night after an incident at the Abdurrahmangazi station construction site of the Çekmeköy Sancaktepe Sultanbeyli metro line. The worker, identified as Erkan Yanık, was covered in wet concrete after a concrete hose exploded.
Yanık, who was located about 20 meters deep at the time of the incident, was rescued by his colleagues using a basket. Health, fire, and police teams were immediately sent to the area upon receiving notice of the incident. The 27-year-old worker was then taken to the hospital by ambulance.
The incident took place on Sevenler Street in Sancaktepe Abdurrahmangazi Mahallesi in the evening. An investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the explosion and whether proper safety measures were in place at the construction site.
Construction work on the Çekmeköy Sancaktepe Sultanbeyli metro line, which began in 2015, is expected to be completed by the end of 2022. The line will be approximately 24 kilometers long and will connect the districts of Çekmeköy, Sancaktepe, and Sultanbeyli to the Istanbul Metro network.
