Sudan’s Education System Suffers Amid Political Turmoil
The ongoing conflict between the army and the HDK in Sudan has led to more than 500 deaths and nearly 5,000 injuries since April 15. As a result of the security issues in the country, many countries have been evacuating their citizens, including foreign students. Sudan plays a central role in education across Africa, with numerous internationally renowned institutions, including the International African University, Al-Nileyn University, and Khartoum University. Despite its reputation, however, there have been serious problems in university education in Sudan in recent years. Economic crises and a failure to pay teacher salaries have led to strikes that have had a negative impact on education in the country. In addition, political instability and conflicts have adversely affected the education system and foreign students, making it difficult for students from South Asia, Africa, Europe, Central Asia or the Balkans to come to Sudan for education. Although Sudan is an important country for the Islamic world, its education system has declined due to the various problems the country has faced.
