Swallows’ Rock Nests Survive Earthquakes.

Swallows living in the Küçükcerit Neighborhood of Çağlayancerit district in Turkey have managed to build nests on rocks 50 meters high above a water source that have remained unaffected by earthquakes. Mehmet Sarıaltun, a local resident, shared that the water beneath the rocks, known as the “eye of Aksu”, is used for drinking, irrigation, and utility purposes. The thousands of swallows in the area have been nesting and living in the rocks for centuries, descending to the water to gather mud and take it back to the rocks to construct their nests. Sarıaltun explained that the nests are built by the swallows processing the mud loop by loop, creating slots like an engineer. Despite strong earthquakes in the region, the nests have not been damaged.
