“Symposium on Xanthi City” Held in Western Thrace
A symposium recently took place at the Western Thrace Minority Higher Education Association Xanthi Cultural Center, focusing on various aspects of the city’s history and culture. The event included discussions on the political history of Xanthi, traditions in the villages, education, religious institutions, and tombstones dating back to the Ottoman period.
Key figures in attendance at the symposium included Turkey’s Consul General in Komotini Aykut Ünal, Xanthi Mufti Mustafa Trampa, PASOK Party’s Turkish Deputy Burhan Baran, as well as representatives of Turkish minority institutions and organizations, along with many community members.
Following the conclusion of the two-day symposium, Mufti Trampa expressed the sentiment that the participants had embarked on a journey to explore the essence of Xanthi. He further declared that the presentations, which were based on credible sources, would be compiled into a book for future reference.
Trampa highlighted the significant interest shown by attendees, particularly the local community, in the symposium’s content, which emphasized the city’s historical and cultural importance. The event provided a platform for meaningful discussions, paving the way for a deeper understanding of Xanthi’s rich heritage.
