The Tashkent Metro Continues to See Record Numbers of Passengers in 2024
The State Statistics Agency has released data showing that the Tashkent Metro transported a total of 270.3 million passengers from January to December 2024. This marks a significant increase of 98.3 million passengers, or 57.2%, compared to the previous year of 2023.
Looking back at the annual passenger numbers over the past few years, the growth of the Tashkent Metro is apparent:
– 2020: 38.8 million passengers
– 2021: 101.8 million passengers
– 2022: 136.7 million passengers
– 2023: 172 million passengers
– 2024: 270.3 million passengers
Recent developments in the Tashkent Metro include the addition of three modern four-car metro trains on January 11. Furthermore, on December 31, 2024, three new sets of rolling stock, comprising of 12 metro cars each, were delivered to the metro system. The Ministry of Transport reported that the number of trains operating in the metro increased from 36 in 2017-2019 to 65 in 2024. Plans are in place to acquire another 26 modern train sets by the end of 2025.
The demand for metro services has been on the rise, with a significant milestone reached on December 16, 2024. For the first time, the Tashkent Metro served 1 million passengers in a single day. The lucky millionth passenger was awarded a transport card, granting them one year of free public transportation.
